30 Years Of Concealed Carry - Jane's Story

 

We spoke with Jane, a mom of 3 from Omaha Nebraska about her 30 years of experience concealed carrying. What she said may be surprising!...

HC: Hi Jane, Thanks for taking the time to speak with us about your experiences with Concealed Carry. 

Jane: Thanks for having me!

HC: So could you tell us a bit about your background and what got you started Concealed Carrying?

Jane: I am a mother of 3 and I raised my youngest 2 as a single mom. I didn’t exactly live in the safest part of town and I had a dangerous and abusive Ex who had made threats against me. I started to conceal carry at a time when it was not that common or that popular, it would raise a few eyebrows if I ever mentioned it to a friend. This was back when it was not as popular as it is these days.

HC: Ah I see, I'm sorry to hear about that. I know a lot of people start carrying for similar reasons. So what was your first carry set up at that time? 

Jane: I started with carrying a revolver in my purse in a leather holster and did that for a while before then moving to a semi auto pistol, a Glock 19 and decided to try carrying on-body in a leather holster.

HC: It is great that you made the transition to carrying on-body there certainly is a lot of benefits to that, which is why we recommend it and the Glock 19 is an excellent choice. 

Jane: Yes I definitely saw the benefits to doing that and realized the downsides of carrying in a purse. 

HC: Yes a lot of people went that route for a long time, what made you transition from a revolver and to carrying that way?

Jane: Well I definitely started to see the benefits of a more modern firearm with a higher capacity and carrying on body and not in my purse, the problem was uncomfortable holsters. I noticed when I wasn’t happy with my holster I tended to not carry as much and became a bit lazy with carrying every day.

HC: We can definitely all relate to that, if it's not comfortable it will eventually get skipped on wearing and left at home.

Jane: The problem at that point was finding a good holster takes time, trials and errors and lots of money on the ones that don’t work out. In the mean time you are not carrying or playing holster roulette. 

HC: We have all been there!

Jane: Yes, If you are going to concealed carry you have to commit to doing it everyday otherwise the system doesn’t work. You don’t want to be caught out on the one day you don’t carry and needing your gun that you carried ALL of those other days for years and years and not having it on you that moment.

HC: Couldn't have said it better myself, I think that is every Concealed Carriers nightmare which keeps a lot of us carrying everyday!

Jane: Absolutely, you need to commit to it being a daily habit and ritual. It’s definitely not for everyone but the benefits far outweigh the cons. Habits compound over time and its best to compound concealed carrying daily religiously versus skipping carrying here and there.

HC: So what was the next evolution in your everyday carry after the Glock 19 and a Leather holster?

Jane: Well I had heard about Kydex holsters from friend who is a police officer who also carries concealed when he's off duty and he told me about Kydex holsters and the benefits to them as that is what he now carries daily.

Jane: That certainly peaked my curiosity and thought it may be a good solution for carrying my Glock on body and affirming that habit.

HC: Yes a lot of people come across Kydex that way too, you started to see the light!

Jane: Haha yes, I did!

HC: So how did your Kydex Holster hunting go? 

Jane: Well I had to go through a few different holster makers, back then there wasn't a lot of people making them, I had a few that were pretty crappy and low quality from people making them in their garage. I tried a few other places that took a long time.

HC: Sorry to hear that, that is quite common with Kydex even today!

Jane: Yes so I hear..

HC: So eventually you found your way to us, how did that come about?

Jane: Well I was searching around again on the hunt for a new holster, I had changed guns to a Glock 43X and saw you guys on Instagram, then a friend also told me about Holster Central and I told them I had saw Holster Central on instagram.

HC: That's awesome! Had he ordered with us?

Jane: Yes he had gone through a few similar experiences to me and told me he had found a good place. 

HC: How did it go? and I hope he is happy!

Jane: Yes he loves his holster! 

HC: That's awesome to hear! We try our best! 

HC: So was it then, that you decided to order with us too? 

Jane: Yes, your ordering process was easy, I had a few questions I needed to get an answer on before ordering and the customer support was instant and super helpful.

Jane: I got the holster within a few days and I love it! It fits perfectly and is so comfortable to wear I sometimes forget I am carrying altogether! 



HC: That makes us very happy to hear, it's why we do what we do and strive to make our customers happy!

HC: So where does it go from here?

Jane: Well since I am carrying this new Holster from you guys, nobody has ever noticed I am carrying. I am now in my 60s and I feel a lot safer walking the dog at night carrying my Glock 43x in my Kydex IWB Holster. I never feel like skipping carrying. So it was a game changer for me and I plan to carry for the rest of my life this way!

HC: That is amazing! I am so happy that is the case!

HC: So do you have any parting shots you want to tell other Concealed Carriers who are part of the Concealed Carry Revolution?

Jane: I would say the biggest thing other than not skipping carrying and making sure you carry everyday is not skipping going to the range, you have to practice too, if you don't use it, you lose it! I try to do a few range sessions a month and a match every once in a while.

We love that Jane has been a perfect example of a concealed carrier, she has been religious about carrying, adapted and found what works for her and has made changes to her everyday carry set up, it evolved from a revolver in her purse to a modern firearm such as a Glock 43X in a Kydex holster, carrying on-body and is aware of her surroundings and places she could be at risk. 

It is amazing that after all these years she is still Concealed Carrying to this day!
